Speaker: Dr Charlie Mckinlay, Lloyd’s Register
Introducing the Sustainable First Movers Initiative (SFMI) Identification Tool, a system to help shipping stakeholders align investment decisions that support the maritime energy transition away from fossil fuels. Ports are poised to play a key role in the production and distribution of electrofuels and are critical enablers to foster first mover initiatives – such as green corridors or energy hubs. The tool identifies port locations that maximise both the environmental and community benefits of first mover initiatives in support of shipping’s energy transition.
Dr Charlie McKinlay is a researcher in the field of maritime decarbonisation, currently working in Lloyd’s Register Maritime Decarbonisation Hub. His research has mainly focused on the technical aspects of clean maritime fuels. This encompasses the whole value chain, from sustainable and scalable supply chains to efficient onboard deployment. He received his PhD from the University of Southampton, where his thesis focused on use of fuel cells for maritime applications.
