PURPOSE:
To carry out subsea technician / operative and cable-jointing duties in support of shipboard operations and to support the Cable Engineering and Subsea departments on board. The Junior Systems Technician shall carry out work and duties across the cable and subsea departments in a multi-skilled role as assigned by the Cable Engineering Officers or the Senior Submersible Engineer under the guidance of the Systems Technicians.
DUTIES:
The Junior Systems Technician shall:
- Under supervision of a Subsea Engineer, pilot the submersible (ROV) and carry out submersible equipment handling operations as required.
- Assist the Subsea Engineer by carrying out pre and post dive checks, on-deck servicing, fault finding and preventative maintenance.
- Be familiar with the company submersible operating procedures as contained within the company management system.
- Be familiar with the principles of all safety aspects of the submersible and umbilical handling systems.
- Have a working knowledge of submersible electrical power and implement effective safety precautions as required.
- Log operational data and be familiar with the format required.
- Follow the procedures for drawing and recording usage of stores.
- Be familiar with emergency duties and must be aware of, and abide by Company procedures, policies, work permits and instructions, particularly in respect of the Code of Safe Working Practices, Company safety policy and environmental policy.
- Assist the JE or System Technicians by carrying out optical fibre jointing to required specifications.
- Assist the JE or System Technicians by carrying out maintenance and testing on all jointing and X-Ray equipment to ensure equipment is operationally ready and calibrated as necessary.
- Assist the JE and cable engineering department in control of all onboard, tooling, consumables and piece part kits to ensure all are kept at an operational level.
- Undertake cable and subsea watch-keeping duties during load / lay / repair operations in cable working areas and operations control room as required by the Cable Officers and the Chief Subsea Engineer.
- Carry out practice joints as per company quality control requirements. Under the direction of the JE or Cable Department Officers.
- Operate cable engines, as required by the Cable Engineering Officers, whilst cable laying and during cable repair operations.
- Support the cable engineering and subsea departments in cable laying operations in conjunction with Ploughs.
- Assist with the maintenance and operation of hydraulic, mechanical, electrical cable engines.
- Comply with Company, statutory and recognised industry engineering watch keeping standards as outlined in the SSEMS, STCW, Flag State requirements and in keeping with recognised industry practice.
- Uphold the Company Safety and Environmental policies and procedures and ensure that defects, incidents, near misses or unplanned events are reported in accordance with applicable company procedure.
- Be prepared to adopt other duties within remit of multi-skilling as directed by the Cable Engineering Officers or the Chief Subsea Engineer.
