PURPOSE:
To develop the required skills to carry out the shipboard roles of cable-engineering duties within the vessel’s cable department and develop into the 3rd Cable Engineer role.
DUTIES:
Under the direction and supervision of a Cable Engineer Officer, the Trainee Cable Engineer shall:

Assist with duties that ensure the department’s efficient and safe operation.
- Assist with tasks in the day-to-day running of the department as directed by the Cable Engineering Officers.
- Assist with cable engineering requirements of the operation being performed.
- Assist with tasks in the test room as guided by the Cable Engineering Officer to ensure that all logs, records and accounts are correctly maintained.
- Assist with duties relating to the maintenance, testing and calibration of appropriate equipment under the control of the department.
- Become familiar with the data and records associated with cable repairs and installation.
- Ensure that the relevant procedures and manuals are complied with.
- Comply with Company, statutory and recognised industry engineering watch keeping standards as outlined in the SSEMS, STCW, Flag State requirements and in keeping with recognised industry practice.
- Uphold the Company Safety and Environmental policies and procedures and ensure that defects, incidents, near misses or unplanned events are reported in accordance with applicable company procedure.
- Understudy and perform other tasks under supervision of an experienced officer aboard the ship.
