Overview
The Council is the representative body of the members of the Institute and acts in an advisory capacity to the Board of Trustees. It provides oversight for the professional, technical and learned society activities of the Institute under delegation from the Board.
What you'll be doing
- Review the professional, technical and learned society affairs of the Institute
- Receive comprehensive updates on and provide oversight for the work of Council’s committees
- Determine the requirements for membership of the Institute, registration on the Institute’s own registers and eligibility for reduced subscriptions
- Serve as a key channel of communication to and from branches and the grassroots membership, ensuring effective two-way communication
- Oversee the awarding of bursaries and awards
- Appoint key leaders in the Institute, including the President, President Elect, and committee chairs
How to become an elected Council member
Elected Members are nominated and voted into the Council by voting members of the Institute in the electoral division they represent.
You will need to have a voting member propose and second your application to join the Council.
Members interested in joining the Council must complete and submit a nominations form to the Governance Team by 17.00 GMT 3 November 2025. The application should include biographical and career details which will be shared with the voting members of the Institute.
