Overview
The Journal of Operational Oceanography is a high-quality, specialised journal that comprehensively covers the latest research in the field of operational oceanography. The journal is published by the IMarEST, in partnership with Taylor & Francis.
As an Editor-in-Chief, you – in cooperation with the Associate Editors and working with Taylor and Francis and the IMarEST – will be responsible for ensuring the continued quality of the journal by leading the journal’s Editorial Board, which maintains and improves the scope, policy and review process of the journal.
What you'll be doing
- Lead the Editorial Board to establish the strategy and development plan for the journal, covering editorial direction, scope, focus and content and including annual objectives
- Find and attract Associate Editors and Editors to determine policy and processes to execute the review process of manuscripts in the Journal’s peer review system, Editorial Manager™
- Attract submissions for the journal by engaging with your network and proposing special issues on contemporary subjects in the field
- Act as an ambassador to promote the best interests of the journal and its outreach, representing the journal at meetings and promoting fair and balanced media coverage
- Report on the journal’s policy, process and performance to the IMarEST's Publications Supervisory Board
- Be responsible for the accuracy and veracity of the scientific and academic content
About you
You will have:
- Experience of strong leadership skills in your field, with extensive experience in leading boards and research teams
- An active presence in the global operational oceanography community and strong academic or applied professional standing
- A strong professional network that supports reviewer recruitment and content development
- Confidence to lead experienced researchers, editors, and reviewers to provide a prompt and courteous service to authors
- Strong organisational skills to ensure that submissions are handled in a timely manner
- The ability to foster positive working relationships with colleagues including the Associate Editors, members of the Editorial Board, IMarEST, and Taylor & Francis
