From Ship to Shore: Supporting Marine Professionals on the Path to Engineering Registration

The Joint Branch is pleased to present a summary of our recent Member’s Night and Technical Talk, held on 24 March 2025 at NUSS Suntec City Guild House.

This event provided valuable insights into the diverse pathways available for professional engineering registration, as well as the evolving opportunities for career development within the marine sector.

Professor John Chudley discussed the importance of recognizing both academic and experiential routes to Engineering Council UK registration, emphasizing flexible learning models like those offered by MLA College. Discussions also covered the Engineering Council’s new strategy and the ongoing Registration Review, addressing future professional titles and the integrity of the engineering register.

Professor John Chudley (Rector of MLA College and Chair of the Engineering Council UK) shared his wealth of experience, from apprenticeships to leadership roles in academia and industry. His talk highlighted how vocational education, CPD, and step-on/step-off progression can empower marine professionals at all career stages.
