IMarEST and PETRONAS join forces to support career development for offshore engineers

We're delighted to announce that the IMarEST has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with PETRONAS, which will see the organisations working closely together to support the professional development of PETRONAS’ offshore engineers.

Following the exchange of the MoU, IMarEST and PETRONAS will jointly develop routes for professional registration (up to Chartered status) as well as training programmes for PETRONAS staff, in addition to membership and content access for employees. They will also work on the accreditation of its engineer development pathways, and potentially run joint webinars and knowledge sharing events.

The MoU will also see the IMarEST provide similar support to PETRONAS’ subsidiaries including MISC Berhad, Malaysia’s leading shipping and marine business, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS and Institut Teknologi Petroleum PETRONAS (INSTEP).

Gwynne Lewis, IMarEST Chief Executive welcomes the collaboration, saying: “Supporting the professional development of offshore engineers is key in light of the skills gap that we face globally. We are looking forward to working with PETRONAS in the immediate future, and in the longer term extending our support to their subsidiaries.”

Noor Ilias Mohd Idris, PETRONAS Vice President for Group Project Delivery, adds: “We are proud to partner with IMarEST in supporting the professional development of our engineers, by putting in place a strong framework of learning and accreditation. We look forward to elevating the expertise and recognition of PETRONAS engineers at the global level, to meet the various needs of today especially in delivering a sustainable future.”
