IMarEST announces its newest NGO Partner - Marine Conservation Network

Through its NGO Partnership scheme, the IMarEST has partnered with Marine Conservation Network (MCN), to raise the standard of ocean education and close the communication gap between scientists, conservationists and the general public.

Based in California, USA, MCN uses a range of video media strategies, including educational videos and interviews of notable scientists, to connect communities and highlight the conservation work of others. Their strategy aims to educate the general public on ocean issues and develop more citizen science initiatives in marine conservation.

Despite the vast array of conservation NGOs and universities engaging in marine conservation around the world, there isn’t a singular unifying network or organisation that links global efforts for a more concerted approach. MCN’s mission is to become such a unifying network.

The partnership between MCN and IMarEST will assist in this endeavour, using the communication channels that both have at their disposal to link global organisations together to enable a stronger collaborative approach to conservation as we strive for the preservation and sustainability of the marine environment.

The IMarEST’s NGO Partnership scheme is open to all non-governmental organisations operating in the marine science and conservation sector and supports capacity building and professional development through access to complimentary membership benefits, knowledge-sharing, online promotion and free membership for volunteers. They are designed to help support the work of NGOs to positively contribute towards the delivery of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (in particular SDG14 Life Below Water).
