Kevin Tester Award for Marine Journalism
There is still time to enter for a brand new award which honours the late Kevin Tester – a brilliant maritime journalist, much missed colleague, and industry expert.
When our friend and colleague Kevin Tester (1976-2021) passed away in April after a short battle with cancer, here at the Institute we wanted to recognise the contribution he made to the industry which combined his passion for maritime and journalism.
Kevin was the Institute’s Senior technical advisor, a freelance maritime journalist, editor, and consultant, with particular expertise in the fields of maritime electronics, digitalisation, and regulatory compliance. Polar bears and climate change were just two of the many things he was personally enthusiastic about.
Dr Bev Mackenzie, representative to IMO at BIMCO, said Kevin “had a gift for translating what could seem dry into something truly enlightening”.
A new award recognises the excellence of the work of journalists in maritime at what is a truly fascinating and challenging time for the industry facing up to huge issues such as climate change, decarbonisation, autonomous vessels, and the seafarer crisis – to call out just a few.
If you are a journalist working in maritime, or know of someone writing in this field, there is still time to apply for the Kevin Tester Award for Marine Journalism.
The winner’s entry will be published in the Marine Professional magazine and the award presented at the IMarEST Annual Dinner. Affiliate membership of the IMarEST is part of the prize – giving invaluable access to a broad range of events, journals, and the Marine Professional magazine.
