Branch visit to University of Warwick

Midlands Branch helps University of Warwick students launch new submarine.

On the 30th of April, branch committee members attended the University of Warwick to visit a one person submarine project team's final year degree presentation.

Novel features of their design were a fabricated hull, instead of one laid up on a mould, and a vectoring propeller for steering and pitch control. Cost control was a principle objective which was achieved emphatically with a 35% reduction, mainly due to the cheaper fabricated hull.

In June 2025, the team will be competing against other universities in the International Submarine Races, to be held this year at the Carderock Hull Testing Facility near Washington, D.C in the USA. Here is a photograph of the branch's sponsorship presentation to the team leader.
