Abstract The shipping industry is at the beginning of a fundamental transformation. The combination of the rise of connectivity and digitalization, and the need to move away from traditional fossil fuels, means that every aspect of the industry’s operating model will change over the next three decades. The growth of data science and Artificial Intelligence had also provided the kindling for bigger disruption due to come. Keng Hoe will share about the latest in connectivity at sea, how technology is driving digitalization. He will also discuss the innovation landscape and how this latest development is seeding the disruption in the maritime industry and how it can drive the next generation of maritime trade.
About the Speaker Keng Hoe is the lead in APAC for growing the Inmarsat IoT Platform known as Fleet Data. Besides engaging the merchant marine sector on digitalisation, he works closely with our Certified Application Providers in improving innovation across the sector. Keng Hoe is an experienced seafarer, familiar with the connectivity challenges, and a leader in innovation and design thinking. He dedicates time at the Singapore Computer Society, leading the Artificial Intelligence & Robotics chapter. Prior to joining Inmarsat, he was the General Manager of a Singapore based Artificial Intelligence & Robotics startup and Product Line Manager with Thales where he led the team in developing the next generation maritime security software. He began his career with the Republic of Singapore Navy where he spent 18 years, with some of his key achievements include participating in the 2004 tsunami relief operation, two tours in the Arabian Gulf and numerous operations in Singapore and the region. Keng Hoe received his Masters from the S Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Nanyang Technological University in 2008 and graduated from Imperial College London in Information Systems Engineering.
