SIGs Committee

The SIGs Committee provides oversight of the Institute's Special Interest Groups (SIG) and serves as a platform for sharing best practices, fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration and escalating key topics to Council through the Council Executive Committee (CEC). The Committee ensures that collective expertise is channelled into areas where the Institute can have the greatest impact.

co-Chair, SIGs Committee

Steve was one of the first cohort of IMarEST Chartered Marine Scientists after the Institute changed name to admit scientists and technologists, then working in marine autonomous systems and sustained ocean observing at the UK's National Oceanography Centre before specialising in ocean policy. His roles included leading the UK Delegation to the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO and being elected as its vice chair. In 2017, he moved to industry as CEO of the Society for Underwater Technology, followed by CEO of Pembrokeshire Coastal Forum/Marine Energy Wales before going freelance in 2022 to work with international clients in ocean science, policy and defence. Steve brings experience as a member of several IMarEST SIGs over the years, and wants to ensure that our SIGs meet the professional needs of the Institute, the development needs of members, and contribute to the growth of a strong, ethical and sustainable Blue Economy into the future.
