Marine Biological Association

Overview

Established in 1931, the Continuous Plankton Recorder (CPR) Survey is the largest marine monitoring programme in the world, having covered more than 7 million nautical miles of ocean. It collects plankton coupled with ocean physical, chemical and biological observations with the resulting data providing information on the biogeography and ecology of the planktonic community. Operated by the Marine Biological Association, the Survey is a globally recognised leader on the impacts of environmental changes on the health of our oceans. It provides the scientific and policy communities with a basin-wide and long-term measure of the ecological health of the marine environment.
