A RAG-enhanced LLM Approach for Maritime Diesel Engine Maintenance
Focus: EngineTalk—an AI chat application combining Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and LLMs to provide evidence-grounded maintenance support for naval engineers.

Location: TU Delft, Echo Building (Echo Arena), Van Mourik Broekmanweg 5, 2628 XE Delft

Speakers:
Lt Cdr Youri Linden, Senior System Engineer, Material & IT Command
Jonathan Maas, AI Consultant & AI Practice Lead, CGI Nederland

Why this talk:
Maintenance teams face fragmented knowledge across manuals, procedures, and incident logs—often across multiple languages. EngineTalk illustrates how a RAG-enhanced LLM can turn this information landscape into a practical, evidence-grounded assistant for engineers.

Abstract:
In this seminar, Youri Linden and Jonathan Maas discuss EngineTalk, an AI chat application designed to support naval engineers with engine maintenance tasks. By incorporating a Retrieval-Augmented Generation component, the application can support engineers through information retrieval and diagnosis.

This session will also cover various optimizations to accommodate multilingual use, address challenges in implementing Generative AI technologies, feature evaluation techniques unique to Generative AI, and explore potential future applications of LLMs in the maritime domain.
