Speaker: Dr Ben Gorry, Principal Engineer – Air Sector, BAE Systems

Dr Ben Gorry will present material based around the Four Principles of Product Safety and evolve discussions around these through an interactive session supported by case studies including the Piper Alpha disaster.
Piper Alpha was a North Sea oil production platform operated by Occidental Petroleum (Caledonia) Ltd. The platform began production in 1976, first as an oil platform and then later converted to gas production. An explosion and resulting fire destroyed it on 6 July 1988, killing 167 men, with only 61 survivors.  The lessons we can take from this Disaster have impacts across all Engineering domains.

Refreshments are available from 1730 hours on the 3 rd floor Room 301.
