IMO (UN) Goodwill Maritime Ambassador, IMarEST
Sajid Hussain CEng CMarEng FIMarEST is a distinguished graduate of the World Maritime University and the Bangladesh Marine Academy. A UK Merchant Navy Marine Engineer (CoC Class ONE); sailed for 13 years before dedicating three decades to academic leadership and professional development at Bangladesh Marine Academy while shaping more than 4,500 cadets and marine officers & engineers, including 125 pioneering female officers.
Awards include the ‘Outstanding Alumnus 2023’ from WMU, the ‘Outstanding Contribution in Marine Education 2018’ and ‘President’s Commendation 2012’ from the IMarEST. His publications include an MSc thesis, 48 research papers, 27 published books, and over 250 feature articles. He served with distinction as an IMO Goodwill Maritime Ambassador (2016–2025) and as a Member of the WMU Board of Governors (2013–2024). Beyond maritime academia, he is also an amateur ‘sculptor and architect’. His multidimensional contributions have established him as a prominent figure within both Bangladesh and the global maritime community.
His enduring passion for the ancient and current maritime history has made him a compelling spokesperson for Bangladesh’s shipbuilding heritage.
