About the talk:

One of the most discussed aspects of the Falklands campaign, the sinking of the Argentinian cruiser ARA General Belgrano on 2 May 1982 by the nuclear-powered fleet submarine HMS Conqueror continues to court controversy. A former Brooklyn-class light cruiser purchased from the US Navy and updated with Sea Cat surface-to-air missile systems, and enhanced electronics, she is the only vessel known to have been sunk in combat by a nuclear-powered submarine, and her sinking outside the 200 mile exclusion zone announced around the island with the loss of 323 lives generated considerable debate to this day.  This talk gives a background to the vessels and the events that led to the attack and sinking.

Please note: The talk will take place after the branch AGM
