Applicants can expect a three-stage process, with support from our expert Membership Team and dedicated volunteers at every step.

1. Using our online application form

Our online form makes applying for registration straightforward. You can save your progress and come back to it to complete at a more suitable time, allowing you to fit the process in around your other commitments.

What to know before you start

You'll be asked to answer some competency questions according to the standards of the registration you're applying for. You will be required to provide comprehensive answers, giving examples of your work and experience for each.

Claims to qualifications, experience and training will require formal documented evidence. In giving details of experience, applicants will need to show how this relates to the required competencies.

It is advised that you begin the application, review the questions and prepare your answers separately, before returning to the application to enter your answers. You can find the competencies for each registration on the specific registration page.

Documents you'll need

You'll also be asked to provide:

  • Contact details of a referee
  • Academic certificates and transcripts

During the application, you'll be asked to download and complete a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Plan, which you can then upload to the application.

At the end of the application, you'll be able to review all the information you've provided before paying the application fee. Once this is complete, you'll receive a confirmation email letting you know we've got everything.

2. Professional review interview

Following receipt of all your information, you'll be invited to a professional review interview, sometimes refered to as a PRI. These are conducted by our volunteer Professional Review Interviewers.

The interviewers will always be registered to at least the level of registration you have applied for.

3. Review by our Membership Committee

Once the interview has been completed, your interviewer will provide a report of their findings to our Membership Committee, the body of volunteers that governs our membership and professional registration applications.

The Committee will review the report and make a decision whether to grant professional registration. If successful, you will be contacted by our Membership Team to let you know.

What's next?

After succesfully being approved for professional registration, you'll be eligible to use the appropriate postnominals after your name. You'll also be required to begin logging your CPD via our online CPD platform.

It's important that you keep a good record of your CPD activity. We're required to audit a random sample of registrants across all our registers on an annual basis, and recording your CPD activity is a condition of your ongoing registration.

You can also apply to become a Professional Review Interviewer once you're registered - find out more here.
