Technical Leadership Committee

The institute's technical activity is led by the Technical Leadership Committee. It oversees and supports the work of the technically-themed Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and identifies current, emerging and future technical issues and priorities. The committee ensures that the Institute operates in the public benefit by delivering sound technical outputs and providing leadership on key issues of importance and relevance to our members, the broader marine sector, governments, regulators, and the general public.

IMarEST technical experts

The IMarEST holds formal recognition across a range of intergovernmental organisations, including non-governmental organisations with consultative status at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC).

Members are central to this work. They are involved with providing informed and expert views in response to consultations and calls for evidence for the development of national, regional and international regulation. They also represent us by sitting on committees and joining IMarEST delegations at intergovernmental organisations and standards bodies, such as the UN's International Maritime Organization (IMO). Our international representation is supported by the activities of our divisions and branches located across the globe.

In order to become an IMarEST technical expert and get involved in developing regulations and standards, you will need to join a Special Interest Group (SIG). This is essential for members who would like to get involved with international representation at intergovernmental organisations.

Don't forget to update your My IMarEST profile and share your expertise with us; go to 'Expertise and interests' in the 'Edit profile' section of My IMarEST to share these details with us.
