President elect visits China office and meets students

On 11 March, Prof. Deborah Greaves, the IMarEST's president elect, visited the IMarEST China Representative Office and met with students at Ningbo University. During the visit, she introduced the work and global community of the IMarEST, delivered a talk on the frontiers, challenges and opportunities of offshore renewable energy, and held an open discussion with students.

The exchange with students was lively and inspiring. One student remarked: “Until now, my only connection with Oxford was the Oxford Dictionary. Today, it feels much closer than any textbook.” The comment captured both the humour and aspiration of young marine talents, highlighting the value of direct dialogue with leading experts. For IMarEST, moments like this reflect the Institution’s commitment to connecting global expertise with the next generation of marine professionals.

The event was also attended by Prof. Hongda Shi from Ocean University of China, Secretary-General of the Ocean Energy Committee of the Chinese Renewable Energy Society and Director of the Shandong Key Laboratory of Marine Engineering.
