BWEG at IMarEST Annual Conference 2020

The Ballast Water SIG contributed to multiple sessions of the IMarEST Annual Conference 2020.

As part of the 2020 Annual Conference - an ongoing multidisciplinary technical conference series which features a variety of presentations, workshops, debates and panel discussions on the hottest topics in the marine realm - the Ballast Water SIG contributed to multiple sessions to be able to discuss key aspects the industry faces during implementation of global ballast water management regulations.

Watch the following keynotes from our members on IMarEST TV

Understanding System Design Limitations in Ballast Water Treatment Systems

Ballast water treatment systems are designed to operate across a broad spectrum of water quality, but each system has a unique set of limitations based on how it was tested. In this webinar, Mark Riggio of Hyde Marine looks at how to read the new IMO and USCG Type Approval certificates to help determine which systems will operate in the waters where your ships trade to ensure satisfactory, compliant performance.

Key Ballast Water Topics during Implementation

In this session, the Ballast Water Expert Group reviews their current efforts to understand and support key aspects the industry faces during implementation of global ballast water management regulations. They share perspectives gained during an event held in March 2020 that brought together approximately 30 experts and stakeholders representing industry, regulatory and scientific views.

As an unexpected, but highly relevant topic, this session also includes a presentation  on the impacts of COVID-19 to BWMS service and maintenance. As implementation progresses, the need for planning contingency measures in the event of inability to manage ballast water per regulations, as well as alternative treatment options that are becoming available are discussed.
