We are licensed by both the Science Council and our Royal Charter status to grant professional registration status to scientists.

Professionals can apply for the Chartered Scientist (CSci) registration, as licensed by the Science Council. All other registrations are to or own standards and are unique to the IMarEST.

Marine-specific registrations for scientists

In accordance with our Royal Charter, scientists can also apply for an additional selection of exclusive registrations. These are:

  • Chartered Marine Scientist (CMarSci)
  • Chartered Marine Scientist (Hydrography)
  • Chartered Marine Scientist (Oceanography)

We are the only institution in the world to provide these awards - including Registered Marine Scientist - and these registration levels are assessed according to our own standards. You can find out more about these on the Chartered Scientist (CSci) page.
