WEBINAR: Ammonia and Methanol Export Hubs: Exploring supply-side challenges for maritime decarbonisation

A webinar from the South East England & London Home Counties Branch.

Export hubs are emerging as a crucial solution in the transition to a low-carbon energy future, for hard-to-abate sectors such as the maritime sector.

This presentation discusses Arup’s latest whitepaper, Power-to-X export hubs: planning and design for renewable fuel infrastructure, and the pivotal role they can play for maritime decarbonisation. The whitepaper investigates technical, economic, and logistical challenges of developing large-scale P2X hubs, including site selection, capital costs, safety, and integration with existing infrastructure.

Case studies of green ammonia and methanol export facilities illustrate the complexity of design, construction, and risk management, and the importance of employing tailored approaches for different fuels and locations. This is contextualised with the recent developments in the IMO’s net zero regulations and framework, and implications this has for P2X hubs development.
