Harbors of Dignity, Oceans of Change
Dubai, 25 June 2025
Mariners endure challenging lives by spending extended periods away from home, living and working within steel bulkheads 24/7 often in adverse weather conditions, facing social isolation. Seafarers often work in arduous environments (particularly in the E/R), exposed to both occupational hazards onboard and the threat of piracy and terrorist attacks while complying with multiple global & complex local regulations. The last thing they need is to be subjected to harassment.
On the Day of the Seafarer 2025, by supporting the IMO’s ‘My Harassment-Free Ship’ initiative, Honorary Secretary of the IMarEST UAE Branch Nikeel Idnani urged maritime leaders responsible for seafarer welfare to serve as bellwethers for fair treatment by providing essential resources, implementing robust policies & ensuring enforcement of them with full accountability.
